There are 41 known species of Bird of Paradise in the world with 37 of them found in the forests of New Guinea. They are by far the most beautiful and fascinating birds in the world. They are all vulnerable due to hunting, habitat loss and islandisation. By conserving the forests of New Guinea, we protect amazing species like the Raggiana Bird of Paradise. At TCA, our work protecting the Toricelli Mountain Range, we are in turn protecting the Lesser Bird of Paradise, King Bird of Paradise, Black Sicklebill and many others. Very little is known about them and our work using the Protected Areas Monitoring phone app is providing vital information about where they live.

This fluffy Bird of Paradise or “Kumul” as we call them in Pidgin English, has been created and designed with love by Boss Crew representing PNG’s symbolism that unites the country of over 850 language and cultural groups. The Kumul is 34cm in height, 12cm wide and 20cm long with legs that dangle down in front of it. Kumul makes the perfect unique gift for any bird lover.
